A Lifelong Obsession
with Nature’s Mysteries
From Backyard Explorer to World Traveler
Hi, I’m Paul Feldmann. For over forty years, I’ve been captivated by the natural world, driven by a passion to explore the diversity of life on Earth. Growing up just outside Chicago, I wasn’t supposed to become obsessed with nature, but a backyard full of trees, dirt, and cicada shells was all it took to light that fire in me. I was the kid climbing trees and digging in the dirt, always looking for answers to how the world around me worked. And that curiosity never went away—it only grew stronger.
“That hands-on, no-frills approach.”
Fast forward, and now I’ve got decades of fieldwork under my belt. I’ve been everywhere from the rainforests of Ecuador, where I set up long-term research stations, to the hurricane-battered forests of Puerto Rico, studying how nature rebuilds itself. I’ve chased raptor migrations, tracked songbirds, and explored the ecosystems of Madagascar.
My work with the Smithsonian and beyond wasn’t about sitting in a lab; it was about getting into the field, getting dirty, and figuring things out firsthand. That hands-on, no-frills approach has been my driving force for over 30 years.
And here’s the thing—I’m just getting started.
With a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Origins of Behavior, an M.S. in Biology, and experience on global research projects—including collaborations with the Smithsonian—I now share my insights through the Primal Biology podcast and my book, Primal.
This podcast isn’t just about sharing facts; it’s about diving deep into what makes life on this planet tick and how we’re all connected to it. Every episode is an adventure, and I love every second of it.
Bringing the Untamed World of Biology to You
For me, hosting this show is keeping the adventure alive. It’s about sharing that same wonder and curiosity that got me waist-deep in ponds as a kid, and passing it on to you. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a curious mind, or just looking to learn something new, my goal is to make biology not just interesting, but downright exciting.
This is more than just a podcast—it’s a journey into the heart of how nature works, how we’re all tied into it, and how everything is connected. So, join me. Let’s explore the wild, untamed world of biology together and dive into the mysteries that shape life as we know it.
